DCO for voluntary sector

Many readers will know that the regional and local press, in whatever guise, is in deep financial trouble. The traditional “river of gold” of classified advertising is shifting irrevocably away to a variety of other solutions, including social media.

Originally, Devon & Cornwall Online was intended to bridge that gap. However, events have moved on more rapidly than anyone predicted even a year ago.

We have decided that a website, and especially a print version of this title is uneconomic, not only in the present financial climate, but into the foreseeable future.

The choice then is between closing DCO down or moving it into the voluntary sector — part of the much trumpeted Big Society.
