Vandalism in car park

Big Society Watch

Your DCO reporter was proceeding in a southerly direction through the large car park adjacent to Water Lane in Exeter when he chanced upon a scene of unprecedented botanical carnage (pictured).

Many of the newly planted trees and shrubs along the edge of the parking area had been torn up and thrown around the tarmac.

It would be hard to describe the kind of people who would do such a thing. Unhappily, “drunk” and “young” probably covers most of the bases.

Bearing in mind David Cameron’s Big Society, your scribe proceeded to replant three of them. The rest were too damaged and scattered to save. Perhaps “Dig for victory” would be a better slogan in this case.

In the circumstances we have renamed this little corner of the car park, “DCO Wood” — after this publication, not David Cameron.

We shall be monitoring it for good behaviour in the months, and even years, to come.
