Camerons have Cornish baby
Prime Minister David Cameron and his wife Samantha received a Cornish surprise today: a baby girl.
The couple are on holiday near Rock on the North coast of Cornwall. Their new arrival was not due until September. Perhaps she couldn’t resist the Cornish air.
The child is their fourth. The eldest, Ivan, died of incurable cerebral palsy last year.
The baby was born at the Royal Cornwall Hospital in Truro and weighed in at 6lb 1oz. She was delivered by Caesarean section.
Mr Cameron said he was absolutely thrilled. She is an “unbelievably beautiful girl,” he said. When the other children were told, they jumped up and down.
“It was very exciting, we were on holiday, thought we were going to get through the holiday and then have a baby, and then it just seemed to kick off a bit quickly. We woke up this morning and thought she was having contractions and it was all beginning to get going, so we thought we would come to the hospital just to get everything checked out, and then things sort of sped up and it all happened very very quickly and the baby popped out out at about 12 o’clock.
“They seemed to be doing fine and my job was to make the toast and the tea, things like that, but it’s absolutely thrilling, really exciting and it’s just lovely they are both doing so well.”
Asked about a name, he thought it would have to be Cornish. How about, Demelza, Kerensa or Morwenna? Other names suggested to us are, Tamsyn, Jenna and Cornelia.
Cornish is, of course, related to Welsh, and Breton in NW France. The original names tend to be mellifluous and romantic.
DCO prefers Demelza.
