Cameron girl is named Endellion
So the Cornish name connection for David and Samantha Cameron’s new baby is to be Endellion. In full, Florence Rose Endellion Cameron.
St Endellion is a small village between Wadebridge and Port Isaac, not far from where they are currently holidaying in Rock.
It’s not perhaps the most elegant name for a girl, but the place itself surely makes up for that. Residents will certainly think so.
The Clerk of St Endellion Parish Council, Elizabeth Uglow, said “It’s an honour to have their baby named after us. It’s delightful news and I send my best wishes to David and Samantha Cameron.”
Those who were hoping for something more romantic, such as Demelza or Morwenna, will be disappointed.
According to some sources, Endellion comes from the Gaelic form of Celtic rather than the Brythonic (Welsh / British branch associated with Cornwall) and means “Fire soul”.
Florence is a Virgo whose type are generally thought of as earthy rather than fiery. Maybe she’ll have hidden depths.
