Exeter Met Office in new deal

Despite rumours of a possible rift between the BBC and the Exeter-based Met Office, the weather forecasters have been retained by the Corporation for another five years.

The Ministry of Defence run weather service has been perceived to have gone off the rails recently. It predicted that last winter, the coldest for 30 years, would be mild, and the rain sodden summer would be barbecue time for all.

This is the first time the BBC has put its weather services out to tender. It was reported that it was in talks with New Zealand’s national forecaster.

However, the weather girls and boys at the Beeb have been in jaunty mood in recent weeks, signalling perhaps that they knew their jobs were safe.

Warning: the Met Office is predicting a heatwave for at least three days from tomorrow, Saturday, July 10.

How many people will be preparing for snow?
