Flybe is top company in Devon and Cornwall
Exeter-based airline Flybe has ascended to the heights of Britain’s largest 100 private companies.
The Sunday Times Deloitte Top Track 100 listings ranks it at 98th place based on sales for year end March 2009.
Flybe’s results were 8% up on the previous year. The company achieved revenues of £577 million carrying 7.3 passengers. Chief executive Jim French is reported as saying, “Being included in the Top Track 100 for the first time is a great achievement for Flybe, and the fact that we are the only company in it from Devon and Cornwall is an even bigger thrill.
“Flybe is proud to be a regional champion, and looks forward to many more years of growth that supports the local Exeter economy.”
Although Flybe has reduced its staff count from 3,197 last year to 2,860 this, its results show what can done in a recession by slimmed down private businesses.
The public sector should take note of how this was done.
