Sarah Wollaston wins Totnes open primary
The Totnes Conservatives’ experiment in open democracy has resulted in a triumph for a local doctor.

Sarah Wollaston won a resounding victory over two experienced Council leaders:
Sarah Wollaston – 7,914
Sara Randall Johnson – 5,495
Nick Bye – 3,088
Following a hustings last Saturday week, chaired by the journalist and former MP, Matthew Parris (he wrote an account of it in The Spectator), a vote was taken of anyone who resided in the constituency, regardless of party affiliation.
An astonishing 25pc of voters took part in the poll. Tory Chairman Eric Pickles pronounced himself “tickled pink” with the result. Maybe that should have been tickled blue?
The good doctor has very little experienced of politics and is yet another woman candidate for Parliament at the next General Election.
At this rate it’s Harriet Harman who’ll be “tickled pink”.
