Aircraft carrier parts leave Appledore shipyard

After long delays and cost-saving interventions, the first bow sections of one of Britain’s new aircraft carriers have left Appledore shipyard in North Devon.
Made of steel and weighing 20 tonnes, the bow sections are being shipped by barge to Rosyth in Scotland for the assembly work.
The two projected Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers have engaged the efforts of more than 100 workers at Appledore, employed by yard-owners Babcock Marine.
The £50m contact will ultimately deliver the largest vessels ever built for the Royal Navy and is estimated to provide 150 jobs at the yard.
