Social networking sites for dates?

by Rhian Gibbings
Many people are losing faith in internet dating websites, having perhaps endured scores of unsuitable dates and wasted their time meeting strangers masquerading as prospective suitors who simply didn’t live up to their online profiles for one reason or another.

So perhaps social networking websites is the answer for those disillusioned folk who have spent far too much time and money subscribing to dating services that haven’t delivered the results they promise.

With social networking, site members have to make a mutual agreement to view one another’s profiles, and your network of contacts is usually extended by making links with friends, acquaintances or friends of friends, and therefore there is a degree of safety and familiarity associated with them. In addition, you can see much more true detail about a person on a social networking site, where it is harder to tell white lies about yourself when all your friends can see your profile and you can upload personal photo albums and other material that demonstrates your belief system and interests.

You can also easily trace old flames, friends from the past and school and college mates, making safe links with people you knew and loved in the good old days.

Interestingly, with age, the number of women in the population is greater than the number of men. Research statistics state that more women use social networking than men, although the reasons for this have not necessarily been proven. Perhaps women are using social networking to find a life partner second or third time round, considering this to be a safe and socially acceptable game plan.

So if you’re male and looking for love, you might be well advised to sign up for a social networking account as soon as you can, because you could find that old flames and friends of friends are soon queuing up to get to know you – and who knows where that might lead!

As always take the usual precautions when meeting someone you don’t know from the internet.
